Temporary addresses differ from persistent aliases
Ghostmail creates a cryptographically generated address for a 10-minute, receive-only browser session. It suits a brief, ordinary test. A persistent alias is tied to a mailbox you control and is meant for future logins, receipts, replies, and recovery. A persistent alias also lets you replace or disable it through the provider you chose, rather than relying on a public address's lifecycle. Use an alias when continuity matters; use a temporary address only when it does not.
Short retention is not private retention
Guerrilla Mail normally deletes mail after about one hour, but the address is not permanently deactivated and may be reusable. Anyone who knows an address may read messages sent to it. Deleting a visible message or waiting for routine retention is not a promise of confidentiality or exclusive control. Do not treat expiration as a privacy safeguard.
Protect the browser context
Ghostmail keeps its session token only in the browser's localStorage. Never share links, screenshots, browser profiles, or device access that could expose the address or session. Avoid temporary inboxes on a shared computer. Clear local browser data on a device you manage if that fits your normal privacy practice; do not erase data you do not own. Closing the page stops timed cleanup from running then; return and retry cleanup. If it fails, an older session can remain available.
Know when not to use temporary email
Do not use it for account recovery, multi-factor authentication, payments, medical care, job applications, travel, legal documents, school records, or private conversations. Do not use it to work around a website's email policy. A service may block temporary domains or require a durable address; respect that choice and use a regular mailbox if the activity needs a trusted identity.
Match the tool to the sensitivity
For a harmless one-time test, keep content plain, do not include identifying details unnecessarily, and finish from the open page. Messages are displayed as text without remote images or attachments, but that does not create a confidential channel. For anything that must remain private or available, use a mailbox and alias arrangement you control.
The short version
A 10-minute session and routine message deletion do not make temporary email private. Reserve it for low-stakes, permitted tests and use a controlled persistent mailbox or alias for sensitive or lasting communications.
